And I thought I'd seen everything!  How about surfing in a luxury resort housing community just minutes away from Palm Springs?

The wait for the perfect wave is almost over as developers appear on course to bring the largest, rideable open-barrel, human-made wave in the world to the California desert.  As scheduled, construction of Coral Mountain, a first-of-its-kind masterplan sports & wellness resort community in La Quinta, will begin mid 2021. Assuming no delays, the 400-acre project is expected to be completed in early 2023.

Located in the shadow of La Quinta's Coral Mountain, the $200 million sports and wellness resort includes a 150-room luxury hotel, private club, restaurants, sports facilities, up to 600 private residences, and a 20-acre surfable wave basin.

The biggest lure, of course, will be the waves created by Kelly Slater Wave Company technology.  Slater is regarded as the greatest professional surfer in the world.  Homeowners, hotel guests, and members will have exclusive access to the 18-million-gallon wave basin that will pump out waves that roll for more than 700 yards and offer almost one-minute rides.

The resort will also include skateboard runs, bike tracks, mountain bike trails, tennis and pickle ball courts, and yoga. Click here to learn more...

Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) today announced plans to bring its Customers two new destinations later this year by initiating service year-round to both Miami International Airport (MIA), and Palm Springs International Airport (PSP), subject to requisite government approvals.

Southwest Airlines Chairman & CEO Gary Kelly shared news of the additional service points on the carrier's route map in a weekly video message to the Company's Employees:

"Our service to both of these airports will bring new, relevant options for our core Customers. Gradually, they're rediscovering leisure travel across the country as their own situations allow. Adding these specific airports to our route map will bring us access to additional revenue at a critical time. It matches our available fleet with demand for very popular destinations.

Each airport fits our route system exceptionally well. Palm Springs is a great California destination. Southwest has long carried more Customers to, from, and within the Golden State than any other airline. Just as we serve multiple airports in metro areas across the country, South Florida is ripe for another. Miami will complement, and augment, existing South Florida service we have in Fort Lauderdale and West Palm BeachMiami already sees some Southwest aircraft on a weekly basis as part of our maintenance program, so adding an ability for our Customers to travel there with us is a win. In both cases, the unmatchable combination of your Hospitality, our low fares, and our Customer friendly policies will make flying to these airports more affordable and attainable. And this is a time when consumers cheer access to the Southwest brand and our great value."

The carrier's initial flight schedule and service profile for each airport will be announced soon;

Sunnylands Opens Art Garden

Less than a 30 minute drive from Palm Springs is the beautiful city of Rancho Mirage.  Located there is an amazing estate and garden that has been the meeting place of presidents and other world leaders for decades.  It's called Sunnylands, and I want to remind you all that this is a one of a kind place to visit while you're in the Palm Springs area.

Beginning September 16, Sunnylands is reopening and inviting the public to enjoy morning walks and self-guided audio tours in their nine-acre desert art garden.  Tours are available from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm, Wednesday through Sunday. Tours of the Annenberg home and public programs, such as Yoga and Tai Chi on the Great Lawn, are on hold until further notice due to the pandemic.

La Quinta Resort And Club A Waldorf Astoria Resort
“The Bachelorette” television show could be filming at the La Quinta Resort & Club in La Quinta, rather than the Ritz-Carlton in Rancho Mirage as was previously reported by blogger Stephen Carbone last month.
Carbone, who runs the website RealitySteve.com, tweeted in June that the hit ABC reality television show might use the Ritz-Carlton as the main location for filming its upcoming 16th season with bachelorette Clare Crawley. But on Wednesday Carbone backtracked, saying that filming would instead reportedly take place at the La Quinta Resort.
"Right area, wrong resort," he wrote. "Clare and her guys will be filming her season exclusively at the La Quinta Resort & Club in La Quinta, CA, not the Ritz Carlton Rancho Mirage in Palm Springs. The guys are arriving today."
The resort is still closed to the public due to coronavirus, with an estimated reopening date of Sept. 3. A representative for the hotel could not immediately be reached for comment.
If true, this won't be the first time the La Quinta Resort has played host to a reality show. Contestants in an episode of Bravo's "Top Chef" also stayed at the resort in 2015.  To learn more about this, click here:

The third Agua Caliente Casino will help establish Cathedral City as a major player.

The Agua Caliente band Indians are constructing their 3rd casino in the Palm Springs area.  The 100,000 square-foot entertainment complex is expected to open within the year.  I've driven past the construction site numerous times and they're wasting no time in building this large complex.

cathedralcityca

The casino project began in 2017 when the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians acquired 12.5 acres at the corner of East Palm Canyon Drive and Date Palm Drive to complete a 13.6 acre project site for an entertainment development project in the heart of downtown Cathedral City. As part of that agreement, the Tribe contributed $5.5 million to build a new city fire station at 68950 Buddy Rogers Ave.  To learn more about this new venue, click here: https://www.palmspringslife.com/cathedral-city-casino/

As many of you know, On The Mark is a one of a kind gourmet food market and deli, featuring a range of unique boutique products such as: craft beer and wine, artisan crafted cheese, nitrate-free meats, pates, small batch oils and venegars, amazing sweets and so much more.  Two things to note about this amazing local spot is that they recently moved from their Uptown Design District location to a larger and more centrally located downtown Palm Springs location.  Their new address is 111 North Palm Canyon Drive, Suite 155.  It's located in the new downtown mall.

The second thing to note is an upcoming Wine tasting event they are holding on Friday, January 24 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.  The event includes a range of 5 - 7 organic wines along with several hors d'oeuvres that they have curated from their shop to elevate the tasting experience.
